Quran Page 39: Guarding the Prayers and the Call to Sacrifice (Surah Al-Baqarah 238-245)
📖 About Surah Al-Baqarah (Page 39)
Page 39 emphasizes the central importance of Salah (Prayer), specifically urging believers to maintain the middle prayer even in times of fear or travel. It then transitions to provide further rights for widows and divorced women, ensuring their fair treatment. The section concludes with a powerful spiritual call to sacrifice in the way of Allah, presenting the concept of Qardan Hasana (a goodly loan) and illustrating the consequences of those who hesitate when called to strive for their faith.
🌍 English Translation (Sahih International)
Verse 238: Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer and stand before Allah, devoutly obedient.
Verse 239: And if you fear [an enemy, then pray] on foot or riding. But when you are secure, then remember Allah [in prayer], as He has taught you that which you did not [previously] know.
Verse 240: And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives - for their wives is a bequest: maintenance for one year without turning [them] out. But if they leave [of their own accord], then there is no blame upon you for what they do with themselves in an acceptable manner. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.
Verse 241: And for divorced women is a provision according to what is acceptable - a duty upon the righteous.
Verse 242: Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses [i.e., laws] that you might use reason.
Verse 243: Have you not considered those who left their homes in many thousands, fearing death? Allah said to them, "Die"; then He restored them to life. And Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of the people do not show gratitude.
Verse 244: And fight in the cause of Allah and know that Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
Verse 245: Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan [qardan hasana] so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.
